Blumhouse Adapts King’s “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone”

Producers Ryan Murphy and Jason Blum are teaming with Netflix for a feature adaptation of the Stephen King short story “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” which hails from the best-selling short story collection “If It Bleeds”.

John Lee Hancock has been tapped to both direct and pen the adaptation of the short story which follows a young boy who befriends an older billionaire who lives in his small-town neighborhood.

They bond over the man’s first iPhone, but when the man dies the boy finds himself able to communicate with his friend from the grave by leaving voicemails on the iPhone that was buried with him. Murphy, Blum and Carla Hacken will produce.

The story was one of four in the collection. Two others, “Rat” and “The Life of Chuck,” have been optioned by Ben Stiller and Darren Aronofsky respectively. The fourth, “Let It Bleed,” has not but its lead character of clairvoyant detective Holly Gibney was seen earlier this year in HBO’s “The Outsider” played by Cynthia Erivo.
