“Blue Beetle” Snags $3.3M In Previews

Warner Bros. Pictures

Warner Bros. Pictures’ latest DC Comics adaptation, “Blue Beetle,” reportedly pulled in $3.3 million in Thursday previews at the U.S. domestic box office.

That number is about on par with “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” at $3.4 million and well behind “The Flash” at $9.7 million. Tracking projections for the film have it as debuting between $25-32 million from Friday-Sunday.

The Xolo Maridueña-led film is expected to end the “Barbie” dominance of the top spot at the box-office over the past month, with that film expected to take in $17-20 million in its fifth weekend.

Angel Manuel Soto helms “Blue Beetle,” which stars Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, a teen who stumbles upon a mysterious piece of alien technology that encases him in an advanced exoskeleton suit. The powerful blue suit grants him extraordinary abilities.

Susan Sarandon, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcazár, Raoul Max Trujillo, Elpidia Carrillo, Belissa Escobedo, Bruna Marquezine, Harvey Guillén and Becky G also star.

It’s looking to fare far better than raunchy dog comedy “Strays” from Universal Pictures. The R-rated comedy, starring the likes of Will Ferrell and Isla Fisher, is projected to open with around $15-17 million domestically.
