Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films’ “Blue Beetle,” originally slated to premiere exclusively on HBO Max, is now slated to head to movie theaters.
The studio announced that the feature, DC’s first film to center on a Latino superhero and starring Cobra Kai’s Xolo Mariduena, will get a theatrical release from August 18th 2023.
Mariduena plays teenager Jaime Reyes, who gains superpowers when he encounters alien armor. The project is helmed by Angel Manuel Soto and penned by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.
The project is one of several DC films being developed for streaming, the most notable other being the “Batgirl” movie.
Warners also set dates for some other projects with an April 21st 2023 release for Timo Tjahjanto’s “Train to Busan” remake titled “The Last Train to New York,” while a “Wizard of Oz” animated reimagining titled “Toto” is slated for February 2nd 2024.
A few HBO Max premieres have also been set with Megan Park’s “The Fallout” on January 27th 2022, Steven Soderbergh’s “Kimi” on February 10th 2022, and Christopher Winterbauer’s “Moonshot” for March 24th 2022.
