Bloom, Lowe, TMZ Circle “Tiger King” Projects?

The interest and talk around Netflix’s hugely popular docuseries “Tiger King” keeps swirling with several updates this week in the lead-up to the Easter holiday. First up, FOX and TMZ are teaming to produce the new hour long documentary special “TMZ Investigates: Tiger King – What Really Went Down”.

The special aims to investigate and answer lingering questions left in the wake of the series, including that rumor about Caroline Baskin’s first husband’s disappearance. Interviews with people connected to Joe Exotic – the Oklahoma animal trainer now in prison for hiring a hitman to murder a local animal-rights activist – will be included.

Next up, Rob Lowe is reportedly in discussions with FX-turned-Netflix super producer Ryan Murphy to develop a scripted take on the saga which Lowe would headline as Joe Exotic according to Deadline. Lowe said in a social media post: “Ryan Murphy and I will be developing our version of this insane story. Stay tuned.”

Further specifics aren’t available, though the project is separate from the one that Kate McKinnon is attached to in which she’ll play Baskin. Lowe currently stars in Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star” which was co-created and is executive produced by Murphy.

Another report in The Sun says 20th Century Studios wants Orlando Bloom to play the role of Joe Exotic in a potential film adaptation of the tale. Their source says: “discussions about a movie have only just started but they believe the idea has legs.”

“Tiger King” is currently streaming on Netflix.
