Director Johnnie To is eyeing Orlando Bloom to star in the $40 million “Red Circle” for Studio Canal says The Hollywood Reporter.
A remake of the 1970 Alain Delon crime thriller, the story follows an aristocratic thief released from prison on the same day that a murderer escapes from custody.
The thief enlists the murderer and an ex-police sharpshooter in a jewel heist, all whilst the local cat-loving police superintendent vigorously pursues them.
Wai Ka-Fai (“Mad Detective”) is developing the script under the helmer’s supervision.
While an offer has gone out to the actor, negotiations have not yet begun. Chow Yun-Fat is are in negotiations to co-star.
Production is scheduled to start in June in Hong Kong and Macau.
