Nightdive Studios and Alcon Entertainment have announced that a modern restoration of Westwood Studios’ 1997 PC video game based on Ridley Scott’s iconic “Blade Runner” is in the works for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
The game’s story follows detective Ray McCoy as he hunts down renegade replicants in a futuristic version of 2019 Los Angeles in a story that runs tangentially with the events of the film. The game sold more than one million copies over its lifetime.
Nightdive Studios, who worked on the “System Shock” and “Turok: Dinosaur Hunter” remasters, are teaming with Alcon Entertainment on “Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition” which was made the hard way. With the original source code lost years ago, Nightdive “painstakingly reverse-engineered the code into their own KEX engine.
The new game will offer a “polished and premium restoration” along with updated character models, animations and cutscenes, as well as widescreen resolution support, keyboard and controller customization and more. The original foreign language translations have also been sourced for the Enhanced Edition.
