Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios’ “Black Widow” launched on Wednesday in a handful of markets, collecting $4.9 million in ticket sales in the process.
The film will hit 46 markets this weekend with a U.S. domestic opening weekend tipped to be around $75-90 million from 4,100 theaters, while internationally it’s expected to garner a further $50 million.
The film does NOT have a Chinese release date as yet which will temper expectations, as will the Euro 2020 final on Sunday which will draw major global audiences.
The highly infectious Delta variant of COVID-19 is leading to lockdowns across nearly 20% of international territories as well.
The film is also simultaneously debuting on Disney+ via Premier Access, though the numbers generated there aren’t expected to have much – if any – impact on the opening box-office.
