“Black Mirror” Interactive Movie Imminent?

Netflix is looking ready to launch “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch,” what was thought to be the first episode of a new season of its acclaimed series “Black Mirror” but instead is turning out to be a choose-your-own-adventure feature-length movie.

The official Bandersnatch landing page is now up and a new report at Esquire is out going into details about the project. Fionn Whitehead (“Dunkirk”), Will Poulter (“Detroit”) and Asim Chaudhry (“People Just Do Nothing”) star in the project which is being helmed by David Slade (“Hard Candy,” “30 Days of Night”).

The story is set in 1982 and involves a young programmer making a fantasy novel into a game. Soon, reality and virtual world are mixed and start to create confusion. The project, which will not be connected to the fifth season arriving in 2019, consists of roughly 312 minutes of footage total for what’s expected to be a 90 minute interactive feature.

The branching narrative means whole scenes will play out differently depending upon your choices, and from the looks of it those differences could be drastic as the equivalent of three-and-a-half whole films have been made. Indications are it could be here as early as this Friday December 28th. Netflix has not yet confirmed anything regarding the film.
