The Dwayne Johnson-led DC Comics adaptation “Black Adam” opens globally this week and is ready to end a months-long drought at the box-office.
Deadline reports that the dark superhero film is on track for a domestic opening of $60 million and an offshore opening in the $65-75 million range from 76 international markets.
Thus the film is said to be tracking for a worldwide debut in the $125-135 million range. Estimates are slightly down from a previously rosier $65-70 million domestic number earlier this month – the softer debut expected to be result of the film’s poor reviews.
The weak start for “Halloween Ends” last week is also leading to caution, though that film had a simultaneous day-and-date release, potentially undercutting its audience.
Working in its favor is that Warners and Johnson have been heavily promoting the film for a while now, and it has the market pretty much to itself for the moment. Actual box-office estimates will start coming in late Friday.
Aldis Hodge, Pierce Brosnan and Noah Centineo co-star in the film which came in at a budget of around $200 million.
