Take-Two Interactive has removed some key leadership roles developing the fourth title in the acclaimed “BioShock” video game franchise.
In a statement, the publisher confirmed that creative director Hogarth de la Plante has moved to a publishing position, while Cloud Chamber studio head Kelley Gilmore has left their role. de la Plante was heavily involved across multiple disciplines on the original BioShock games.
These key personnel changes followed a recent internal review by 2K Games executives of the game’s development, a review that the game appears to have failed.
BioShock 4’s narrative was reportedly identified as “an area that was particularly in need of improvement” and will be revamped. Bloomberg adds that 2K has also cancelled plans for a remake of the original “BioShock” game earlier this year. In a statement, a spokesperson says:
“We are working hard to set BioShock up for the best possible future. Right now, we have a good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one. We are working closely with leadership at the studio to define this path.”
Take-Two first announced back in December 2019 that work had begun on a new entry, but nothing much new has come from it beyond rumors of a Polar setting.
