Veteran actor Billy Dee Williams has teased a potential return to the “Star Wars” franchise.
Williams, of course, played Lando Calrissian in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”. More recently he reprised the role on screen for 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”.
Last week came word that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover, who previously collaborated on FX’s “Atlanta” and Prime Video’s “Swarm,” had already taken over writing duties on the long-gestating “Star Wars: Lando” TV series for Lucasfilm and the Disney+ service.
The pair had reportedly signed on before the writer’s and actor’s strikes, with Donald Glover to reprise the role of a younger incarnation of Lando Calrissian which he played in 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story”.
Now, a few days later, Williams has taken to Twitter to drop the following tease:
“I am thrilled to share that something truly magnificent is coming soon. This is a dream come true for me… make sure to enable notifications for stories and posts to stay in the loop, you don’t want to miss this… May the Force be with you all.”
Responses, unsurprisingly, overwhelmingly asked if he’s potentially involved in the series. No further comment has come as yet. Could we see both the younger and older incarnations of Lando in this series? Time will tell.
Williams hasn’t been far from the role in recent years beyond just ‘Rise of Skywalker’ – the actor has also voiced the character in numerous “Lego Star Wars” specials along with the “Star Wars: Rebels” animated series.
