Along with the just posted new trailer, United Artists Releasing made a surprise announcement this morning in regards to the upcoming “Bill & Ted Face the Music” feature.
With the state of cinemas still unclear, the distributor has opted to take an interesting approach. On the one hand it will still be doing a selected theatrical release in the cinemas that are open.
However, they will also be going the premium video-on-demand route, much like “Trolls World Tour” and “The King of Staten Island” did, and will be doing that at the exact same time.
It’s not an unusual strategy, boutique distributors like IFC and Magnolia often use this dual release approach, but this will mark one of the largest titles to ever adopt this strategy.
It also means for this year’s Labor Day weekend in the United States, the film will cater to all options – people can watch it either from the comfort of their homes or at cinemas.
More details are expected to arrive with a virtual panel at Comic-Con @ Home on Saturday.
