Actor Bill Skarsgard put his own stamp on the iconic monster Pennywise the Clown across both parts of Andy Muschietti’s two-film adaptation of Stephen King’s famed novel “IT”.
As we know, Warner Bros. Discovery is working on a prequel series titled “Welcome to Derry”. The series will reportedly unfold in the eponymous Maine small town in the early 1960s – the last window before the creature goes into hibernation and then wakes and meets the Losers’ Club in 1988.
The new series will also reportedly go more into the origins of Pennywise the Clown, which was partly explored in “IT: Chapter Two”. Does that mean we’ll get Skarsgard back in the role in this adaptation?
Speaking with Jake’s Takes (via ComicBook.com), Skarsgard says at present he has no current involvement with the series:
“We’ll see what they come up with and what they do with it. I’m, as of now, not currently involved in it. And if someone else gets to do it, my advice would just be: do it your own, make it your own, have fun with it, you know what I mean? What I thought was so pleasurable about that character was how incredibly abstract he was.”
No casting on the series has been announced, with HBO Max being very stingy on the details. The show isn’t expected until well into 2024 at the earliest.
