The Bethesda Softworks-owned developer MachineGames has announced they are creating a new video game based on the “Indiana Jones” franchise.

MachineGames is the developer of the acclaimed modern run of “Wolfenstein” video games that began with 2014’s “Wolfenstein: The New Order”.

The new game, an original story that won’t adapt any specific previous film or game title, will be executive produced by Todd Howard, creative director of Bethesda Game Studios, and will be done in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.

Microsoft bought Bethesda parent ZeniMax Media in September so a PC and Xbox release is likely, a potential PS5 release is less certain.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of yesterday’s news that the Lucasfilm Games label will now accompany all video game adaptations of Lucasfilm properties going forward.

While “Indiana Jones” had numerous game adaptations in the 1990s and early 2000s, it has been well over a decade since the last non-“LEGO” Indy game arrived. Sony’s “Uncharted” and Crystal Dynamics’ “Tomb Raider” franchises have filled that void for much of the past fifteen years.
