Bernthal, Charles, Hector Lead HBO’s “City”

Jon Bernthal, former “The Good Wife” alum Josh Charles and “Bosch” regular Jamie Hector have all been set as the leads of HBO’s new limited series “We Own This City”. Production is set to begin in July.

The project hails from “The Wire” team of executive producer David Simon and producer George Pelecanos. Reinaldo Marcus Green (“Monsters and Men”) is set to direct and executive produce this adaptation of Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton’s book of the same name.

The six-hour limited series chronicles the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force – and the “corruption and moral collapse that befell an American city in which the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrest were championed at the expense of actual police work” according to the synopsis.

Bernthal plays Sgt. Wayne Jenkins, the central figure in the sprawling federal corruption case about the plainclothes unit that went rogue and began hunting and robbing citizens and drug dealers alike.

Charles is Daniel Hersl, a cocky and swaggering cop known for his casual brutality and the subject of multiple citizen complaints.

Hector plays Sean M. Suiter, a homicide detective caught up in the GTTF case and called to testify before a federal grand jury.

Simon and Pelecanos write the series, with “The Wire” scribes Ed Burns and Bill Zorzi. Dwight Watkins also serves as writer, while Burns, Kary Antholis and Nina K. Noble also executive produce.
