BBC and FX have released the trailer for their three-part limited series adaptation of Rumer Godden’s bestselling 1939 novel “Black Narcissus”.
The story, previously adapted into the famed Powell and Pressburger 1947 feature, unfolds in Mopu in the Himalayas in 1934 during the latter years of British rule in India. It’s there a remote clifftop palace once known as the ‘House of Women’ and which holds many dark secrets.
When the young nuns of St. Faith attempt to establish a mission there, its haunting mysteries and the isolation awaken forbidden desires that seem destined to repeat a terrible tragedy.
The series stars Gemma Arterton, Alessandro Nivola, Aisling Franciosi, Jim Broadbent, Rosie Cavaliero, Gina McKee and in her final performance Diana Rigg. All three episodes are scheduled to air on FX on Monday, November 23rd and will be available for streaming the following day on FX on Hulu.
