Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic has been delayed by seven months and will now open June 3rd 2022. The push isn’t surprising as the project is still in production in Australia with another five weeks of material left to shoot.
The delay comes on the heels of the recent additions of newcomer Alton Mason as Little Richard and Gary Clark Jr. as Big Boy Crudup. They join Austin Butler as Elvis, Tom Hanks as his manager Colonel Tom Parker, and Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rufus Sewell and Yola also star.
Originally targeting a November 2021 release both in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, the shift to 2022 now puts it outside WarnerMedia’s day-and-date release strategy for HBO Max which – for now – is slated to only run this calendar year.
