Bay Produced “Songbird” Hits SAG Roadblock

The actor’s union SAG-AFTRA has told its members to refuse work on the Michael Bay-produced pandemic thriller “Songbird”.

Announced in mid-May as a low-budget production shooting in Los Angeles, the union announced the ‘do not work’ order on Thursday for the film’s production company On A Lark Productions LLC.

They say the company had failed to complete the signatory process and is therefore not signed to any applicable SAG-AFTRA agreement – so SAG-AFTRA members could be disciplined if they work on the project.

A SAG-AFTRA spokesperson says: “The producers have not been transparent about their safety protocols and that is something we obviously take very seriously. Also, as noted in the Do Not Work order, the producers have not yet become signatory to our agreement. We have no further comment.”

Set in a near-future, the film posits the idea of the pandemic having not gone away as the virus continues to mutate.

Adam Mason is directing from a script he wrote with Simon Boyes. Invisible Narratives and Catchlight Studios are backing the project.
