Action star Dave Bautista is in final negotiations to play the villain, The Kurgen, in the remake of the 1980s cult classic “Highlander” at Amazon MGM Studios.
Bautista lands the key third role in the film alongside Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod and Russell Crowe as Ramirez. Marisa Abela also has a major role.
The original followed a Scottish Highlander who discovers he is an immortal warrior. With the help of a swordsman, the Highlander battles other immortals across the centuries.
In the original film, The Kurgen is an immortal barbarian who has been killing other immortals across the centuries in order to absorb their essence. Clancy Brown famously played the character in the original movie.
Chad Stahelski is directing the film, which is due to begin principal photography at the end of September in the UK as well as Hong Kong. Michael Finch wrote the script for the remake.
Bautista recently shot the action comedy “The Wrecking Crew” at the streamer alongside Jason Momoa. He is also in talks to star in the “Roadhouse” sequel.
