With the “Gears of War” movie officially announced, the actor who has long been fan-cast for the lead role has reiterated his desire to take it on.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Spectre” star Dave Bautista today tweeted a video sharing footage he previously filmed in 2019 for the game “Gears of War 5” in which he opens a crate and then slips on the armor of character Marcus Fenix, whom he resembles.

This is being seen as a formal ‘throwing his hat into the ring’ by Bautista, who shot the video for his inclusion into the game as a DLC character, but the tweet refers to the just-announced film saying: “I can’t make this any easier.”

Bautista has long touted this as his dream role and in 2019, tweeted that he had tried everything in his power to get it to happen.

Netflix is producing the new film in partnership with game developer The Coalition, and the story will reportedly adapt some portion of the video games. An adult animated series based on the property is also in the works at the streamer.
