“Batman v Superman” Gets OAR Restoration

Ahead of his four-episode “Justice League” recut on HBO Max sometime in 2021, filmmaker Zack Snyder has revealed he’s working on a newly restored version of that film’s predecessor “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”.

The new version will reportedly restore the original aspect ratio (IMAX1.43:1) as opposed to the 2.4:1 ratio the film ended up being released with theatrically. The new look will add much more to the top and bottom of the frames of the film.

Talking more on his social media platform of choice Vero, Snyder did not confirm a release plan for the new version but says he expects it to hit both HBO and home video at some point. The movie will hit its fifth anniversary next year and so will likely be timed to that.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” grossed $873 million at the global box office and opened to divisive reviews though an extended cut released later received a warmer reception.
