Jason Bateman has signed on to direct the supernatural Western revenge film “The Pinkerton” for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Pictures.
The project is based on a spec script by Daniel Casey (“F9”) and marks the first feature project under the $250 million deal Bad Robot and Warners signed in 2019, a deal that has yet to really produce much following the cancellation of “Demimonde” before it made it into production.
Specifics of the plot for “The Pinkerton” are unknown though it will almost certainly revolve around the infamous Pinkerton Detective Agency of the Old West. Abrams, Bateman, Michael Costigan and Hannah Minghella will produce.
Bateman recently signed on to helm “Dark Wire” based on Joseph Cox’s novel, but also recently pulled out of the “Clue” remake and the Scarlett Johansson-led “Artemis”.
