Actress turned daytime talk show host Drew Barrymore has revealed that she and her former co-stars Cameron Diaz and Adam Sandler have all discussed wanting to remake John Hughes’ iconic comedy “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles”.
Barrymore reunited with her “The Wedding Singer” and “50 First Dates” co-star Sandler for an interview recently with Barrymore saying: “You and Cameron [Diaz] … Her and I did discuss remaking Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and then I was like, ‘Well you know Adam and I talk about that… Well, I also want to play John Candy.”
Sandler responded: “You could do a good Candy. You know who could do Candy the best? [Chris] Farley. He would walk around the office and say lines from Planes, Trains and Automobiles.”
Steve Martin and John Candy starred in the original about an uptight marketing executive and a gregarious shower curtain ring salesman who embark on a three-day odyssey to get the former home to Chicago for Thanksgiving.
Critics raved about the film, which was seen to have broken Hughes out of the teen genre he was famous for. Hughes went on to collaborate with Candy again two years later on “Uncle Buck”.
