Melissa Barrera will re-team with her “Scream” and “Scream VI” directing team of Radio Silence for their untitled monster movie thriller at Universal Pictures.
Much like Leigh Whannell’s “The Invisible Man” or Chris McKay’s “Renfield,” the project aims to offer unique take on Universal’s classic monster lore – which particular monster is not clear at this time.
Like those films it’s a standalone project and thus no restrictions on budget, rating or genre. Radio Silence has been loosely developing the project since last year, though it was only recently announced in the wake of the success of “Scream VI” which has become the franchise’s highest earner.
The trio of Radio Silence will assume the usual positions – Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett will direct the project and Chad Villella will produce.
Stephen Shields penned the script with revisions by Guy Busick., whilst William Sherak, Paul Neinstein and James Vanderbilt of Project X Entertainment and Tripp Vinson also produce.
Barrera will next be seen in the modern musical reimagining of “Carmen” opposite Paul Mescal for Sony Pictures Classics. That opens Spring 2023. She also has “God’s Country,” “Your Monster” and “The Collaboration” on the way and recently was seen in “All The World Is Sleeping” and “Keep Breathing”.
