Clive Barker has joined the team of executive producers on HBO’s planned series adaptation of his classic horror franchise “Hellraiser”.
Penned by Mark Verheiden (“Battlestar Galactica”) and Michael Dougherty (“Trick r’ Treat”), with Verheiden serving as showrunnner, the series is also being executive produced by Roy Lee (“IT”), Dan Farah (“Ready Player One”) and the “Halloween” 2018 team of David Gordon Green, Danny McBride, Jody Hill and Brandon James.
Barker penned the novel “The Hellbound Heart” which inspired the film series, and he directed the original first film. His joining is seen as a seal of approval on the project dubbed an “elevated continuation of the existing Hellraiser mythology.”
Barker says in a statement he is: “delighted the Hellraiser mythology is seeing a new life. It’s time the stories went back to their roots. I’m eager to bring to a new audience the most powerful and ancient elements of horror: the darkest evil invading our human lives and how we must find in ourselves the power to resist it.”
David Gordon Green is set to direct the initial episodes.
