Netflix has premiered the official trailer for “The Revenant” and “Birdman” filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s new film “Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths”.
Daniel Giménez Cacho plays Silverio Gama, a revered Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker who returns home and is beset by his memories of the past and fears about his future all mingling together with his life in the present.
The film had a premiere at the Venice International Film Festival to a mixed reception, so much so that Iñárritu tells Indiewire that he has cut a fairly massive 22 minutes from the version screened at Venice. He says he opted to revise the film after watching it with a Venice crowd:
“The first time I saw my film was with 2,000 people in Venice. That was a nice opportunity to see it and learn about things that could benefit from being tied up a bit, add one scene that never arrived on time, and move the order of one or two things. Little by little, I tightened it, and I am very excited about it.”
The resulting film still clocks in a massive 152 minutes without credits. Iñárritu directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Nicolás Giacobone. “Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths” opens in theaters on November 18th and then streams on Netflix on December 16th.
