Producer Roy Lee has indicated that “Weapons” director Zach Cregger’s acclaimed 2022 feature “Barbarian” is finally getting a physical media release.
Despite being a solid little hit at the box office, earning $45 million off a $4 million budget, the 20th Century Studios title never had a disc release. Disney has, outside of its biggest family & Marvel hits, generally avoided physical media releases in recent years.
Cregger himself has spoken about it before, saying he’s tried his best to get some form of physical media release but has made no headway on it.
Now, producer Roy Lee has reportedly revealed on a podcast (via The HD Room) that “they [the studio] told us they were doing Criterion, I don’t know what’s happening.” It marks the first evidence of a potential physical media release for the film, though Criterion has yet to confirm it.
The film follows a woman (Georgina Campbell) who rents a house on Airbnb, only to find the house has been double-booked and is occupied by a man named Keith (Bill Skarsgard). Soon, they both discover a dark secret inside.
Justin Long also stars in the film, which scored acclaim for its smarts and various twists and turns.
