Banks, Lord, Miller Poke A “Cocaine Bear”

Elizabeth Banks (“Charlie’s Angels”) will direct while Phil Lord and Chris Miller (“21 Jump Street”) will produce “Cocaine Bear” for Universal Pictures.

The story is inspired by true events that took place in Kentucky in 1985. A 175-pound black bear consumed the contents of a duffle bag filled with over 70 pounds of cocaine dropped from an airplane by a local drug smuggler. The bear was later found dead of an apparent overdose.

The plot details for the film are under wraps but it’s moving quickly and aims to shoot this Summer..

The “Ready or Not” team of Radio Silence was set to direct a previous untitled iteration of the project penned by Jimmy Warden. Banks, Aditya Sood, Brian Duffield and Max Handelman also produce.
