“Banks,” “Caster,” “Fortune” Adaptations Set

Paramount Pictures is reportedly planning a film adaptation of Elsie Chapman’s 2019 magic-themed novel “Caster” from Scholastic Entertainment, Josephson Entertainment and Weed Road Pictures.

The story follows Aza Wu who knows that real magic is dangerous and illegal because it killed her sister, Shire. Aza must step in to save the legacy of Wu Teas, the teahouse that has been in her family for centuries.

Akiva Goldsman, Barry Josephson, D. Matt Geller, Greg Lessans, Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman will produce the film.

That’s not the only book-to-movie adaptation news today as TKO Studios and Macro are reportedly working on a film adaptation of Roxane Gay and Ming Doyle’s six-part graphic novel “The Banks”.

Published in 2019, the comic follows the story of three generations of Black female master thieves in Chicago. To avenge the loss of a loved one, the women must mend their differences to embark on a heist of a lifetime.

Gay will write the film’s script and serve as an executive producer.

Next, Meredith Dawson has been hired to pen the film adaptation of Rosie Danan’s debut novel “The Roommate” which is released next month. That project is setup at Anton.

The story follows two unlikely roommates – one straight-laced, the other an adult film star – who get more than they bargained for when the sparks that fly between them inspire a plan to launch a sexy, feminist start-up that risks their hearts and the wrath of a porn empire.

Finally, 42 & A-Major Media are teaming to develop and produce a film adaptation of Megan Chan Meinero’s play “Good Fortune”. New York playwright Chan Meinero is writing the script while Mary Lee, Ben Pugh and Claudia Shin are producing.

The darkly comic social satire follows Mei-Ling, who was adopted at birth from China by Julie, an American woman who wanted a daughter that would love her and be with her forever. Eighteen years later, Mei-Ling is ready to go to college, but Julie has a different plan.
