One of the stars of the upcoming fifth “Indiana Jones” film is Antonio Banderas, though specifics of his role have been unknown to date.
Set primarily in 1969, Harrison Ford returns as the legendary archeological explorer in his final theatrical adventure and is joined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones and John Rhys-Davies in supporting roles.
This week whilst out promoting “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” Banderas tells Collider that he is indeed a part of the film and whilst he can’t share much about his character, he does confirm his role is relatively small:
“My character is very little; it’s almost a cameo… He’s just a friend of Indiana’s character, and he’s looking for him because he needs something from his friend. But he just takes up very little time of the movie, but very happy to be part of a saga that is of the history of motion pictures, obviously.
Just the fact that I step on the set, for me, was important. And I got to tell you: I had a great time with Harrison. He’s a gentleman on the set and outside of the set. I share some dinners with him and some time, and what a gentleman.”
The project marks the first Indiana Jones film not directed by Steven Spielberg, who is producing. James Mangold directs from a script he wrote with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth.
Though it’s the final film in the series, a TV series set within the universe of the franchise is in the works. “Indiana Jones 5” hits cinemas on June 30th 2023.
