Christian Bale is re-teaming with his “Out of the Furnace” and “Hostiles” director Scott Cooper on the film adaptation of Louis Bayard’s novel “The Pale Blue Eye” for Cross Creek Pictures.

The thriller revolves around the attempt to solve a series of murders that took place in 1830 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Bale stars the investigating veteran detective and is aided by a detail-oriented young cadet named Edgar Allan Poe (who went in to basically invent the detective fiction genre and was a major influence on sci-fi and horror).

Cooper calls this his “attempt at a large-canvas whodunit, with a serial killer at its center.” Bale will produce with Cooper, John Lesher and Tyler Thompson with filming to begin this Fall.
