Aziz Ansari’s “Being Mortal” Is Dead?

Netflix

Nearly a year ago, Searchlight Pictures suspended production on their film adaptation of Atul Gawande’s nonfiction work “Being Mortal”.

The project was comedian Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut and was around halfway through principal photography before the halt was called.

It was revealed the halt related to a complaint filed that the studio reviewed and then “decided that production cannot continue at this time”.

Later it came out that inappropriate behavior allegations were levied at one of the film’s stars Bill Murray who spoke shortly after about what happened at CNBC. He acknowledged the allegations but indicated what took place was meant as a joke. Reports later indicated he settled the complaint out of court.

At the time of the shutdown, Searchlight allowed the filmmaker to find a new home for the project. Now a new report from Puck says almost a year on and the project is basically dead.

They indicate Ansari did try to find a new home for his film but was unsuccessful. The film’s cast and crew, including co-stars Keke Palmer and Seth Rogen, have now moved on to other things.

That said, Searchlight and Ansari still want to work together and the outlet claims Ansari will re-team with Rogen to write a script.
