Avery, Wan Are Rebooting “Van Helsing”

Universal Pictures is reportedly developing an original horror/thriller set in the world of monster hunter Abraham Van Helsing.

In addition, “Overlord” helmer Julius Avery (Overlord) will direct and James Wan will produce the feature through his Atomic Monster banner. Michael Clear will also produce.

The details of the script are being kept under wraps. The character first appeared in Bram Stroker’s novel “Dracula” and was famously played by Peter Cushing in several films opposite Christopher Lee as Dracula.

In 2004 Universal tried to a launch a big budget action franchise with Hugh Jackman playing the title role, but that film underwhelmed.

Eric Pearson penned the original script for this new take which Avery is now polishing.
