Last month, the first art of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” appeared via photographs of a standee at the Walt Disney Studios Marketing Expo in Shanghai.
The studio used both a drone light show and marketing materials to tease the release, but it was this promo art that had most people talking. Now, a high-quality scan has gone online showing the proper colour and detail to the costume.
The art comes as Michael Waldron, the film’s co-writer and the one who has been on board since the project was originally going by its “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” incarnation, has spoken about an idea for that scrapped incarnation of the film that was shot down.
Waldron and Jeff Loveness did the original ‘Kang Dynasty’ script and pitched an idea of The Young Avengers defeating Kang, only to discover he was an inexperienced variant. He said on a Reddit Q&A:
“Jeff Loveness and I spent an afternoon pitching on the Young Avengers defeating a version of Kang and being so stoked about it…only to discover that that particular Kang carried a little card that said to Be Patient with him, it was his first day as a Kang. And then they were so bummed. I think he was gonna be the lizard Kang from the end of Kang Dynasty? I don’t know. Anyway, we had fun.”
The confirmed cast of ‘Doomsday’ involves multiple “X-Men,” “Fantastic Four” and “Thunderbolts” actors along with various heroes from the “Thor,” “Captain America” and “Black Panther” franchises.
“Avengers: Doomsday” hits cinemas on December 18th 2026.
