“Avatar” Sequels Resume Filming Next Week

Oscar winning “Titanic” producer Jon Landau has posted a photo on Instagram from the set of the “Avatar” sequels.

The post includes a message confirming the cast and crew are headed back to New Zealand next week and also boasts a photo the high speed forward command vessel The Matador and its accompanying jetboat The Picador.

Production on the long-gestating feature was halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic but is now firing up and ready to go. WETA Digital have continued to work on the movies’ visual effects throughout the pandemic.

Landau says: “Our Avatar sets are ready — and we couldn’t be more excited to be headed back to New Zealand next week.”

Previous set photos have highlighted the underwater segments of the second film. The four films are reportedly budgeted at a combined total of $1 billion.

“Avatar 2” is aiming for a December 27th 2021 release.
