Filmmaker Ava DuVernay is teaming with “Arrow” producer Jill Blankenship to develop Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker’s 2019 DC Comics title “Naomi” into a series for The CW.
The story follows a teenage girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event rattles her hometown, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins. What she discovers will challenge everything people believe about superheroes.
DuVernay and Blankenship will pen and executive produce the show which will be the first DC drama on the network that isn’t produced by Greg Berlanti. Though unlikely, it has yet to be determined if “Naomi” will be connected to that universe of shows or be entirely standalone.
DuVernay is busy in TV land, producing “Queen Sugar” and “Cherish the Day” and recently saw her adaptation of the comic “DMZ” being picked up as a limited series at HBO Max. She’s also readying “Colin in Black and White” for Netflix.
