“Miraculous – Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir” creator Thomas Astruc has been set to reboot Osamu Tezuka’s iconic manga and anime franchise “Astroboy”.

Method Animation (“The Little Prince”) will team with Shibuya to produce the ambitious new series which would mark the fourth TV incarnation of the character following the original 1963, 1980 and 2003 series (a CG animated film adaptation was released in 2009).

The original became a global sensation, especially in Japan, France, and the United States where it was the first anime to air and paved the way for more Japanese TV animation series in the west.

Astruc is set to direct 52 half-hour episodes of 3D CG animation. The stories will address today’s hot-button issues from the impact of the internet to social media and environmental damage.
