Netflix’s live-action TV series adaptation of the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise has begun production at Cinecittà Studios in Italy according to the streamer.
A press release has confirmed the past historical setting of the series – Rome, 64 A.D. during the reign of Emperor Nero and the year of the Great Fire of Rome which decimated the capital.
The show will tell an original story within the continuity of the franchise which follows the secret war between two shadowy factions – the Assassins and the Templers – one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will.
The full cast of the series has been revealed. In regular roles we have Lola Petticrew (“Say Nothing”), Toby Wallace (“The Society”), Zachary Hart (“Slow Horses”), Laura Marcus (“Bad Education”), Tanzyn Crawford (“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”), Nabhaan Rizwan (“KAOS”), and Claes Bang (“The Square”).
In recurring roles are Noomi Rapace (“Prometheus”), Ramzy Bedia (“Of Money and Blood”), Sean Harris (“Mission: Impossible – Fallout”), Corrado Invernizzi (“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”), Sandra Guldberg-Kampp (“Foundation”), Youssef Kerkour (“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”), Mirren Mack (“28 Years Later: The Bone Temple”), and Louis McCartney (“Stranger Things: The First Shadow”).
With more than 230 million units of the various games of the series have been sold, each entry puts characters into different yet pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.
Emmy nominees Roberto Patino (“Westworld,” “Sons of Anarchy”) and David Wiener (“Halo,” “The Killing”) will serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers.
Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Genevieve Jones and Matt O’Toole also executive produce. Johan Renck (“Chernobyl”) is set to direct.
