FXX has renewed its animated spy comedy series “Archer” for a twelfth season to air in 2021. The pickup comes just one week before the eight-episode eleventh season concludes.
In recent years the series relied on themed seasons tied to other genres from noir to jungle adventure to retro sci-fi – all visions of its titular character whilst they were in a coma.
This current season saw Sterling Archer return to the real world and deal with the consequences of having been in a coma for years. The move back to a format much closer to the show’s original few seasons has led to a ratings resurgence.
Through its first five episodes, the show is averaging 2.43 million viewers across all platforms – a 32% increase on last season.
