“Aquaman” Sequel Gets More Topo Time

Warner Bros. Pictures

Following his cameo in the first film, the drumming octopus Topo is set to return for the upcoming “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”.

In the comics, Topo is a recurring character who aids Aquaman in his adventures. He had a brief appearance in James Wan’s first “Aquaman” and director James Wan tells EW that role is being expanded for the sequel.

Wan confirms to the outlet the super strong and intelligent character will have a “stronger presence” and will be “an actual character” this time around. The recent trailer shows off Aquaman and Topo atop Arthur’s seahorse steed Storm.

Wan has described the reaction so far from the few who have seen the sequel as that it’s not your typical superhero movie, but rather “like an old-school Ray Harryhausen movie.” He adds: “That’s the biggest compliment because that’s the spirit that I was going for.”

He has also spoken about the Octobot mech seen in the trailer, confirming the device hails from the Lost Kingdom – the seventh underwater principality that formed from the sunken remains of Atlantis but had mysteriously vanished.

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is set to hit cinemas on December 20th.
