Apple TV+ has won a fierce bidding war and handed out an eight-episode, straight-to-series order for its limited comedy series “The Shrink Next Door” starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd.
Based on Wondery and Bloomberg Media’s podcast and inspired by true events, the dark comedy follows the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac ‘Ike’ Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin ‘Marty’ Markowitz (Ferrell).
Over the course of their relationship, Ike slowly takes over Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s home and taking over his family business.
Georgia Pritchett (“Succession,” “Veep”) will write and executive produce, while Michael Showalter is attached to direct and executive produce. The project marks the first time Rudd and Ferrell have been on screen together since “Anchorman 2”.
