Apple is reportedly planning to introduce augmented reality content that will act as a companion to its AppleTV+ streaming service reports Bloomberg.
AR content is said to be akin to bonus content, like a Blu-ray special feature, and will overlay objects or characters from Apple TV+ titles onto real-world environments via an iPhone or iPad app.
For example, if you watch a scene from “For All Mankind” set on the lunar surface, you may see a virtual rover driving across your living room via your phone. The aim is for experiences designed to draw in and retain new subscribers.
The AR feature is expected to debut next year, ahead of an Apple headset in 2022 that will be built around augmented and virtual reality, followed by AR glasses in 2023.
Apple is also preparing to introduce podcasts related to existing TV+ shows and developing a series of subscription bundles dubbed Apple One which would bundle the TV+ service with the likes of Apple Music and Apple Arcade along with discounts on other SVOD services like Showtime and CBS All Access.
