Apple has announced a December 4th premiere date for “Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special,” a holiday special starring the songstress who will also a companion soundtrack album and a music video for her latest holiday single “Oh Santa”.
The special centers on a crisis at the North Pole that requires help from Santa’s great friend, Carey. The elusive and undisputed Queen of Christmas jumps into action with the help of musical performances, animation and guest stars including Tiffany Haddish, Billy Eichner, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Misty Copeland, Mykal-Michelle Harris and Carey’s twins, Moroccan and Monroe.
Hamish Hamilton and Roman Coppola direct the special from a script by Caroline Fox. The soundtrack will launch exclusively on Apple Music on the same day as the special. It will then be available on other music platforms the following week.
Said soundtrack boasts new interpretations of hit holiday songs, some of which will feature Snoop Dogg and Dupri. The “Oh Santa” music video will be released everywhere on December 4th.
Carey has done numerous holiday specials in the past, including ones for Netflix in 2015 and Amazon in 2019. She also recently released a two-disc album and a memoir.
