Apple Studios and Lionsgate is set to produce “Manhunt,” a period true-crime drama series for Apple TV+ that follows the hunt for Abraham Lincoln’s assassin John Wilkes Booth.
Emmy award-winner Tobias Menzies (“The Crown,” “Outlander”) is set to play the starring role of Edwin Stanton, Lincoln’s War Secretary and loyal friend who conducts a desperate search and goes to great lengths to catch the killer.
At the same time, he must uphold Lincoln’s legacy as his Reconstruction plan is underway. The series will use James Swanson’s Edgar award-winning novel of the same name as its basis along with other information surrounding Lincoln’s death to craft a high-tension conspiracy thriller.
Historical figures like Mary Simms, a former slave of the doctor who treated and protected Booth, also play a prominent role in the investigation. The project hails from writer/producer Monica Beletsky while Carl Franklin will direct.
