Imperative Entertainment and Apple Studios are teaming for Martin Scorsese’s period thriller “Killers of the Flower Moon”. The tech giant is in talks with Paramount Pictures to co-produce the project which boasts a massive $225 million budget.
Based on “The Lost City of Z” author David Grann’s non-fiction book, the 1920s true story focuses on a string of murders of members of the Osage nation in Oklahoma after oil was discovered beneath their land. The series of slayings was one of the fledgeling FBI’s first major homicide investigations.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro are slated to star in the film which also had MGM and Netflix as potential suitors after Paramount grew concerned at the ballooning costs. Scorsese also reportedly did a rewrite by himself earlier this year which shot the costs up.
Apple will take point as the creative studio and shoulder the cost, while Paramount will distribute. Thisfollows the recent acquisition of Tom Hanks’ World War II submarine drama “Greyhound” which the streamer picked up from Sony.
