Apple Nabs Gadot-Led Hedy Lamarr Series

Previously in the works at Showtime, the planned Gal Gadot-led event series about film legend and inventive genius Hedy Lamarr has moved over to Apple. The tech giant has handed out an eight-episode straight-to-series order.

Starring in films from the late 1930s to the 1950s, the incredibly resourceful Austrian-born actress also helped develop a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes during the Second World War, one that used spread spectrum and frequency hopping technology. Eventually, following six marriages, she retreated into seclusion for decades and communicated only by telephone with the outside world – even with her children and close friends.

Much of the principles of her work formed the basis of technology used everywhere today including Bluetooth, Wifi and GPS. The series hails from “The Affair” co-creator/executive producer Sarah Treem and “The Handmaid’s Tale” producer Warren Littlefield with Treem in talks to pen the entire series.

Gadot and Jaron Varsano will also executive produce.
