Apple Cuts Back TV+ Service Offers

Apple Cuts Back Its Tv Service Offers

So far Apple has been handing out subscriptions to its Apple TV+ service rather generously – that’s about to change.

Starting from today (July 1st), new buyers of products like iPhones, iMacs, MacBook Airs or Apple TV 4K boxes will only qualify for three months of Apple TV+ free – that’s down from a full-year free which was offered before.

This has led to the obvious question of how many of those, happy to accept the service for free, are willing to stick around should they have to pay?

Apple hasn’t disclosed how many subscribers it has signed up but Wall Street analyst firm MoffettNathanson estimated that in late 2020, a full year after the service debuted, an estimated 62% of the customer base were on free promotional offers.

As of the end of March this year, Apple has said it had 660 million total subscribers across its family of paid services (Apple Music, iCloud, Apple TV+, Apple News+ and Apple Arcade).

Apple also recently cut a deal with Roku for a dedicated TV+ button on the device maker’s newest remote control – sitting alongside Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu.

The service currently offers just 71 original series, films, documentaries and specials – but it’s all original productions, with no licensed library content. It also has some big hitters coming in the back half of the year including second seasons of “Ted Lasso” and “The Morning Show,” and new series like “Foundation” and “The Shrink Next Door”.
