Apple Briefly Teases “Neuromancer” Series

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has posted a brief clip on its official account teasing the streamer’s upcoming series adaptation of William Gibson’s ground-breaking sci-fi novel “Neuromancer”. Various attempts have been made over the past few decades to adapt the book into a film, with none getting out of the development stage.

While the clip confirms the series is now in production, these sorts of clips are usually posted when filming begins on a project. That’s not the case here as the ten-episode series has been filming since January in Japan and should be nearing a wrap by this point.

The timing instead is for the 41st anniversary of the book’s publication. The book is notable for being the most famous early cyberpunk novel and delving into the issues of cyberspace, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and cheap ubiquitous technology long before these things became an integral part of modern culture.

The series will follow a damaged but expert super-hacker named Case (Callum Turner), who is thrust into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime with his partner Molly, an assassin with mirrored eyes, aiming to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets.

In the story, Chatsubo is an expat bar in Japan frequented by Case and the show’s version of that bar can be glimpsed here. Joseph Lee, Mark Strong, Cleménce Poésy, Peter Sarsgaard, Emma Laird, Dane DeHaan, André De Shields, Max Irons, and Marc Menchaca co-star in the series.

Graham Roland (“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”) will serve as showrunner, with JD Dillard (“Devotion”) directing the pilot. Gibson, Zack Hayden, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Thunell, Drake, Adel ‘Future’ Nur, and Jason Shrier also executive produce for Skydance Television and Anonymous Content.
