Apple has acquired “Tetris: The Movie,” the upcoming movie about the genesis of, and ensuing legal battle that surrounded, the groundbreaking video game Tetris.
Taron Egerton (“Rocketman,” “Kingsman”) is playing Henk Rogers, a Dutch video game designer who first secured the rights to distribute Tetris on consoles where it found popularity.
He was heavily involved in a dispute that arose over the franchise’s copyright in the 1980s with businessmen Robert and Kevin Maxwell, and Russian software engineer Alexey Pajitnov who first created the game.
Noah Pink penned the screenplay while Jon S. Baird is directing. Gregor Cameron and Gillian Berrie will produce for Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films.
The film has a scheduled start date of early December in Scotland.
