George Miller’s anticipated “Max Max: Fury Road” prequel “Furiosa” recently wrapped production in Australia ahead of a planned mid-2024 release in cinemas.
The film sees Anya Taylor-Joy take on the role of a younger version of Charlize Theron’s Furiosa character, playing opposite Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.
Out doing promotional interviews for this week’s “The Menu” release, “The Northman” and “The Queen’s Gambit” actress tells IndieWire she had an absolute ball whilst filming the often gruelling production:
“I think I need to sit down and attempt to try and digest what’s happened over the last seven months. But I’m incredibly, incredibly proud of it, and so proud of all of the people I got to work with, and just the amount of love and effort and work that went into it, I’m excited to see it.
It’s the dirtiest and the bloodiest I have ever been, which is saying something, genuinely saying something. Any time I get to be dirty or bloody and not perfectly prim and pretty, I’m just having a ball, that’s where I feel most comfortable. So yeah, ‘Furiosa’ was definitely right up my street.”
Intriguingly she does all her driving in the film without a license, saying she can’t drive on a highway or parallel park but can “do a juicy 180 in a truck”. Thus when it comes time for her to get her own license, she worries about the person who has to train her:
“If a driving instructor gets in a car with me, all I know how to do is crazy stunt driving. I’m planning on getting my stunt driver’s certificate…so then I’ll be able to do all of my driving in all films, which would be great. But I fear for the poor man or woman that is taking the test with me, because gentle, I am not.”
In the film, a young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.
Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
“Furiosa” hits theaters everywhere on May 24th 2024.
